About Kara Music Academy

Kara Music Academy is a harp-led music academy in Surabaya, Indonesia, with studios in Surabaya West, Surabaya East and Jakarta, and live one-to-one online lessons. It teaches harp, violin, cello, piano, voice, drums, guitar and early-years music (Poco a Poco, ages 0 to 3) to children and adults. Lessons are private, 30 minutes, once a week. Parents book a trial lesson on WhatsApp.

Students in concert dresses gather at the front of a full hall with the audience seated behind them after the concert.

What Kara is

Harp is where Kara began. Today Kara also teaches violin, cello, piano, voice, drums, guitar and early-years music, and Poco a Poco, our early-childhood programme, is for ages 0 to 3. We teach children of every age up to 17, and adults too. See all programmes.

How a lesson runs

One student, one teacher, every week. Private lessons are 30 minutes, once a week, on a regular slot, with four lessons a month. Every instrument can be taught online, live and one-to-one.

All scheduling and payment goes through Kara admin, not directly to teachers, so the relationship between teacher and student stays about the music.

Book a trial lesson on WhatsApp. Your child tries the instrument while you watch. See what happens at a trial.

Poco a Poco, for ages 0 to 3, is taught in small group classes.

How our teachers are developed

Kara's teachers are developed through class observation and induction, not simply left to teach.

You receive a written picture of your child's progress each semester. A student's accomplishments are kept in one portfolio.

Where we teach

Kara teaches in four places.

  • Surabaya West: Jl. Dian Istana no. 1, Surabaya (Main campus)
  • Surabaya East: Dharmahusada, Surabaya
  • Jakarta: Pluit, Jakarta
  • Online: Live one-to-one lessons, wherever you are.

Which instruments are taught where is confirmed when you book. See all locations.
