The faculty

Teachers who perform, and are trained to teach.

Every Kara teacher is a performing musician. Every Kara teacher also works inside a system that develops, observes and supports them. Your child benefits from both.

What you can count on

Three things are true of every teacher at Kara

01

They perform

Every Kara teacher is an active performing musician. They know from their own experience what it takes to prepare, to walk on stage and to keep improving, and that is the standard they teach towards.

02

They work in a system

Teachers sit on a formal career ladder, with class observation and a structured induction for those who join. Teaching quality at Kara is managed, not assumed.

03

They are part of a faculty

Teachers here are not working alone in a rented room. They belong to a faculty, and for the harp that faculty is the largest in East Java.

Harp faculty

The largest harp faculty in East Java.

Harp teachers are rare in Indonesia, and that scarcity is the reason Kara began as a harp academy. Today our harp faculty is the largest in East Java. For a family that is more than a headline. It means a choice of teacher, colleagues who teach alongside and learn from one another, and a route for a student to move on within the academy as they progress.

Your child is matched with a teacher at the trial lesson, by age, interest and goals. For harp, your rate depends on which teacher your child is matched with, confirmed before you enrol.

How we develop teachers

Playing well and teaching well are different skills.

A fine performer is not automatically a fine teacher. At Kara we treat teaching as a craft that has to be developed on purpose, and we have built the structure to do it.

  1. Structured induction

New teachers are inducted into how Kara teaches, what it expects and the standard it holds itself to. A child gets the Kara standard from the first lesson with a new teacher.

  2. Class observation

Teachers are observed in class. Someone other than the teacher sees how a lesson really runs, and what they see feeds into that teacher's development.

  3. A formal career ladder

Teachers move up a defined ladder as they develop. It gives a strong teacher a reason to grow here, which supports continuity for students, and gives families a clear standard to expect.
